Dave Matthews Band's sixth major label studio release received mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. The band's 15-year evolution was very apparent on the record, which contains varying degrees of song-writing and production, having teamed up with producer Mark Batson (Sting, Eminem, Gwen Stefani) for the record who produced a slightly differing style for the band.

The record begins innocently enough with Dreamgirl, whose video featured none other than Julia Roberts (apparently a friend of Dave's), which could be passed off as the album's Where Are You Going?, but as the record progresses a new sound is very evident. Whilst this sets off warning signs in many a hardcore fans head, the album was more generally accepted than Everyday, especially as several songs, namely American Baby Intro, American Baby, Hello Again, Louisiana Bayou, Steady As We Go and Hunger for the Great Light, have developed over the course of the 2005 summer tour in a very traditional DMB way and have since become popular at live shows.
