Stefan not so keen on Dave's friends...
13th of February 2004 at 5:31pm

When Stefan Lessard recently took to the snowboarding slopes in the 8th Winter X Games, an interviewer from EXPN.com managed to catch up with him and ask him a few questions.

Among them included Stefan's feelings on the Dave and Friends tour, to which he answered:

"You know, I love Vermont, and I love Ben & Jerry's, but I'm not into Phish so I avoided the shows. I'm trying to be nice. I love Tim Reynolds and I love Dave and Tim together. I think they're great, and I wish Tim would come and do some more work with us, as a band. The thing is, I don't know if I really felt that Trey and the other guys really fit in with Dave as well as we do. Not that it's a competition, but I have to say I'm ready to see what the next chapter is."

I was never really a big Phish fan (I lie, I'm not a Phish fan at all - One Sweet Whirled is much nicer) however the Dave and Friends shows have been enjoyable, least because Sweet Up And Down was given a jump start.

As for his comments on Tim, lets hope Stefan's words are convincing enough to pull Tim back onto the DMB tours.

By far his most interesting comment was on the direction he wanted the band to go in. Apparently,

"I'm trying to push our band into something a little harder. More hip hop and a little less of the folky country stuff."

Hmmm... more hip-hop? Stefan's always been like this really, into heavier stuff. Not sure Dave is so hip and hop, but we'll see - with the promise of PRS guitars on the next album, anything could happen really. I mean, we had Boyd "rapping" on Everyday, so maybe a little heavy stuff isn't so bad... The Last Stop played with all distortion on an electric perhaps.
